Craig D. Jessop

Widely recognized as one of the premier conductors of our time, Dr. Craig D. Jessop has thrilled audiences and ensembles throughout the world for over thirty years by detailed attention to the demands of the musical score and unprecedented affection and respect for both his performers and his audience. He is the quintessential conductor, equally at home in the world of choral and instrumental music.

Dr. Jessop has held a variety of positions. He was the Music Director of the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir for nine years, responsible for international radio/television broadcasts heard by millions of people every week. His PBS holiday specials have been hailed as the gold standard for holiday musical programs. In addition, Dr. Jessop served in the United States Air Force Music Program for sixteen years in positions such as the Director of the US Air Force Singing Sergeants (a 28-voice professional choral ensemble in Washington, D.C), as well as Commander and Conductor of the Band of the United States Air Forces in Europe at Ramstein, Germany; and, Commander/Conductor of the Air Combat Command Heartland of America Band in Omaha, Nebraska. He was also the Music Director/Conductor of the Maryland Choral Society, The Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir of Germany and the Omaha Symphonic Chorus.

Dr. Jessop holds the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Conducting and Performance Practice from Stanford University; a Master of Arts Degree in Music Education from Brigham Young University; and, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Utah State University. He has taught on both the secondary and university levels, including positions as adjunct professor at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University Schools of Music.

As a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator, Dr. Jessop is in great demand. He frequently serves as a guest conductor of All-State Choirs, most recently in Texas and Missouri. He will perform at the Berkshire Choral Festival during the summer of 2008. He is currently the Music Director of the Carnegie Hall National High School Honors Choir, the only choral festival sponsored by Carnegie Hall under the auspices of the Weill Institute of Music at Carnegie Hall. He most recently performed Brahms' Requiem with the Orchestra at St. Luke's at Carnegie. Previous performances included Requiems of Mozart and Duruflé, Dona Nobis Pacem of Vaughan Williams, Poulenc's Gloria and Symphony of Psalms of Stravinsky - all with the Orchestra of St. Luke's. 2009's offering will be Michael Tippet's A Child of Our Time with the artistic collaboration of Jesse Norman with performances at Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
